Recorded from a live 3-Hour Workshop via Zoom.
About the Class
Join us to transform your understanding of movement & structure in this recorded masterclass. You will build your own tensegrity structures with our newly minted, 36-strut tensegrity kit. You'll make mind-bending ‘floating’ structures that demonstrate interconnected kinetics and fundamental structural principles found at every scale of biology. Tensegrity is everywhere!
Beginners and experienced builders alike are welcome.
What you’ll learn
- Foundational principles of tensegrity physics and geometry (spoiler: it was SPIRALS all along)
- Step-by-step guidance through multiple structure variations including how to make:
- Mobile structures
- Stable structures AND
- how to COMBINE the two
- plus! how to make virtually any known polyhedron
- Applications in art, biomechanics, movement therapy, and structural design
- Real-time troubleshooting and personalized feedback
In the Kit
- Minimo Kinetics latest 36-Strut TensegriBones Construction Kit featuring:
- Patent-pending assembly method that makes tensegrity construction easier than ever before
- A charming travel-sack for storage and transport
Your Instructor
Howdy, I’m Mike.
I’m an award-winning puppet artist with 18 years of experience creating collaborative events and objects that move with uncanny dynamism. As an inventor with two pending patents, I believe I've developed an intuitive system for building tensegrity structures—making complex concepts accessible to nearly anyone.
My journey from "supposedly smart kid with grades that claimed otherwise" to artist/product designer/engineer has been fueled by an intense desire to break down barriers to understanding. I sure didn't invent tensegrity (nature did that), but I've created a method that makes these endlessly fascinating structures a joy to build, to touch, and to play with.
My goal? To put these fundamental, but under-explored, principles into our hands— to gain a shared understanding of how our material existence is knit together. All this in the hope to build a more sustainable, balanced, and dynamic relationship with the structures and systems within and around us.
